Turning 30 & Everything I Wore on Vacation

I’m a simple girl, really. All I need when I go on vacation are 2 things: to drink cava and eat all day, and run around the town in amazing outfits.

For my 30th birthday, my Swedish berry took me to Spain.

Originally, we thought we might visit Barcelona. However, the size of the city and the thousands of online stories from North Americans getting pick pocketed and their cell phones stolen right out of their hands gave me two sleepless nights worrying about how my outfits could be ruined by a money strap and my buzz could be spoiled by a theft. We settled on the quaint town of Málaga instead where we could have both beach and city in walking distance and our hotel included breakfast, a gym and a rooftop pool. It was an excellent choice as we ran around the city, eating and drinking, and wearing summer outfits that will hide in my closet in Sweden until July.

I had brought outfits for 6 nights, though one night we got rained out so I had to improvise, and the day after my 30th birthday we just ordered room service…  The city was perfect to walk around in my heels as everything was close together, the streets were clean and the cobble stone was smooth – we only took a taxi to one restaurant because it was raining.

The only real issue is that my boyfriend still hasn’t learned how he should walk when I wear heels. We usually hold hands when we walk around on vacation (we don’t do this in “real life”- only when we go on vacation because it’s cute, but kinda annoying). We play a delicate dance of his pace quickening, me attempting to match it but cannot because my feet are impaired by a platform, him not noticing and therefore dragging me behind him, me reminding him “Äskling, you’re dragging me again!”, him slowing his pace for a short period of time and the cycle begins again. You can see why we don’t bother in regular life, but when you’re on bae-cay, everything feels just a bit more special.

I tried to take as many pictures as I could, though most days we were just living in the moment, living life to the fullest- and that’s exactly how it should be.

Trend Alerts for Summer

1. Knit Dresses

Try a knit dress with a sexy cut out this summer. If you are feeling more daring, go for a see through dress paired with either matching underwear or your favorite bikini.

2. Woven Bags

Woven bags are always in for summer, but this year try something with a geometric shape. This gorgeous wooden bag is from Cult Gaia. It was the perfect outfit accessory because I could alternate silk scarves depending on what I was wearing.

3. Beaded Belly Chains

Get creative and make your own beaded jewelry this summer. I made this chain to match my bikini while I sat and watched TV!

4. Vibrant Eyeshadow Colors

I always look forward to vacation makeup because I have more time to spend getting ready, and I feel more creative. Try this trend by swiping one vibrant shade on your lid for a bold look. Another suggestion is a “halo eye” (adding the color on the inner and outer corners, while leaving the middle of your lid a light color to create a halo effect).

5. Matching Outfits With Your Partner

This one really does not need an explanation. It’s cute and it’s fun. If your man won’t dress up, you might want to consider getting a new man.

My 30th birthday was the most fabulous day ever! I did not want it to end, but I will cherish the memory for ever. We started the day with a minor work out. I always need to stay in a hotel with a gym. Even if I don’t go a good work out, a short 20-30 minute sweat is usually what I need to get my day started. Then I feel that I can eat and drink whatever I want and I still feel good about myself. We went down to the hotel’s breakfeast which was fabulous. Everyday they had an assortment of cold cuts, cheeses, breads and fruits. The hot food was the best I’ve ever seen. Hotel breakfast scrambled eggs are always suspect- they are grey, watery and all around scary. Our hotel eggs were moist but not watery, fluffy and beautifully orange colored. I would stay here again just for the breakfast.

After breakfast, I waited in the restaurant as my berry went to fix the room with a birthday surprise. When I came up, I had presents and champagne waiting for me. I received an infinity bracelet to symbolize our love from Danish designer George Jensen. From my parents, a pearl ring to symbolize wisdom as I am now 30, and therefor, incredibly wise. 😉

For my birthday outfit, I paired my new gifts with some just as special old ones. Last Christmas my mom had gifted her charm bracelet from the 70’s. I had been obsessed with it as a little girl and always wanted one of my own. The Italian Charm and the Pandora bracelets had their moment, but they just didn’t hit the same as a classic charm bracelet! My mom has purchased some charms of my own now and I’ve started building it up again.

I was feeling fancy and asked my boyfriend to take a pic of all my jewels. Some people thought the sapphire was an engagement ring, but it’s actually a ring from my Dad! He had a gaudy but awesome ring of his melted down and remade and gave it to me for Christmas. I don’t really buy jewelry because I have so many special, meaningful pieces that have been gifted to me.

The final reveal was my birthday dinner outfit. I wanted to feel like a princess so I knew a tutu would be the perfect selection. I followed this tutorial to make the skirt. It took me about 2 days and was not without mistakes. My waistband was too flimsy to hold the weight of the skirt. I had some extra lace fabric which I then melted because the heat on my iron was too hot. I skipped my zipper and just added a broach to close the skirt (which I then lost at some point during the night!) But all in all, I think the outfit turned out perfectly (well, maybe besides my sun burn).

We had a fabulous dinner, delicious (and strong) drinks, and even ended with some disco. I walked the Malaga Streets barefoot at 3 am back to my hotel and I’m not even mad about it because that’s how much dancing I did!

I had a few ‘fits that didn’t make the cut due to the weather (also my weather, if you know what I mean 😉 ). They are not so patiently waiting for another occasion to be seen, so I will have to give them a reason to come out soon. When I do, I’ll be sure to share it with you!
